]]> The Honourable Davendranath Tancoo, Minister of Finance, today received the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Staff team, led by Ms. Ana Guscina, for the concluding meeting of their two-week official visit under the 2026 Article IV Consultation, the standard annual review conducted by the IMF with all its member countries. During the mission, the IMF team held wide-ranging engagements with economic, political, and social stakeholders across Trinidad and Tobago.

These discussions provided a comprehensive opportunity to review recent macroeconomic developments, the medium‑term outlook, and the Government’s ongoing reform agenda. They also allowed the IMF Staff Team to observe that strengthened regional and international engagement along with opportunities linked to developments in Venezuela, is generating a positive momentum for Trinidad and Tobago and increased interest from global investors.

]]> The Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (FIUTT) and the Inland Revenue Division (IRD) have formalised their commitment to enhanced collaboration in combatting money laundering, terrorism financing, proliferation financing, tax avoidance and other crimes through the signing of a 2026 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The objective of the MOU is for both departments to collaborate within the provisions of their governing Acts, and to subsequently share information on their own motion or upon request. In this regard, the FIUTT Act provides for the FIUTT’s collection, analysis, dissemination and exchange of financial intelligence to law enforcement authorities (including the IRD), while the IRD will be responsible for investigations and prosecutions (civil, criminal, or administrative) under its legislative purview, as it relates to tax offences and Money Laundering (ML) matters.

Earlier today, (Monday 15th December, 2025), Minister of Finance, the Honourable Davendranath Tancoo travelled to Panama City, Panama to attend both the Board of Directors and the XLVI Audit Committee (CAU) Meetings hosted by CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean in Panama City, Panama scheduled from 15th -16th December, 2025.
The CLXXXVII Board of Directors Meeting will take place on December 16th 2025 to review and approve the Program of Activities and Budget for 2026, along with the authorisation of credit operations. The agenda includes decisions on the allocation of shares, specifically Series “C” shares for Haiti and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Additionally, it will also include the confirmation of Barbados’ compliance with the conditions to transition to a full member country, joining Trinidad and Tobago as the only other CAF full member from CARICOM.

]]> Earlier today, Minister of Finance the Honourable Davendranath Tancoo received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of Panama, His Excellency Diomedes Carles at the Ministry’s Head Office at the Eric Williams Finance Building, Port of Spain. Discussions were centered around existing policies, trade agreements between the both countries, and they reinforced their commitment to further strengthen the diplomatic relations which extends for over thirty-two (32) years.

His Excellency, Diomedes Carles also took the opportunity to extend an invitation to Minister Tancoo requesting his attendance at the International Economic Forum -Latin America and the Caribbean 2026, which is scheduled from January 28th – 29th 2026 in Panama City, Panama, where both His Excellency, Jose Raul Mulino Quintero, President of the Republic of Panama and His Excellency, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil are expected to deliver remarks.

The event will be jointly hosted by the Government of the Republic of Panama and CAF- Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. Accompanying the Panamanian Ambassador at this morning’s meeting was Ms. Indra Peralta, Third Secretary of the Diplomatic and Consular.

]]> On December 05, 2025, the Honourable Davendranath Tancoo, Minister of Finance welcomed His Excellency Guillaume Pierre, Ambassador of the French Republic to Trinidad and Tobago, and other representatives of the French Embassy for a courtesy meeting. Also present, was the Ministry of Finance’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Suzette Taylor-Lee Chee.

During the discussions, Minister Tancoo highlighted existing policies, mechanisms and opportunities for boosting economic growth and investment in Trinidad and Tobago.

Both parties reinforced their commitment to collaborate and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two (2) countries.
