The Public Financial Management Modernization Unit (PFMMU) serves as the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for the Public Financial Management Reform (PFMR) Project within the Ministry of Finance. The Unit plays a critical role in advancing Government-wide financial reform, strengthening national public finance systems, and supporting modernisation efforts across the public service.
As the PIU for the PFMR Project, the PFMMU’s core functions include:
The PFMMU was established in October 2016 within the Ministry of Finance to implement the PFMR Project. At inception, the Unit consisted of a Chief Technical Coordinator (Project Manager), a Procurement Officer and a Finance Officer.
The Unit was restructured in financial year 2022/2023 to ensure that its mandate can be fully achieved. The strengthened structure is currently headed by a Deputy Permanent Secretary, supported by the following positions:
